Just Thinking…
Kia ora e te whānau!
Easter has always been a memorable time for me. I enjoyed going to Easter Camps as a teenager, and spending the weekend connecting with God and other young people. However, the last few years have been a bit different due to the pandemic, causing us to rethink the way we celebrate Easter. This year as a youth group, we run an event on the evening of Good Friday where we played games, learned about the Easter story, and ate pizza (and lots of Easter treats) together. It was a great time of connecting as a group.
The RBC Easter Hunt has certainly been a highlight for me this year. Pascal, Iceni, Georgia, Matt and I were excited at the possibility of running a community Easter hunt, and spent a couple of weeks brainstorming ideas and planning. We decided to run a big Easter Hunt in Waiatarua Reserve where we would hide 7 decorated wooden lazer cut eggs for each day leading up to Easter Saturday. Each day on Facebook, we released a clue that connected to passage about the Easter story hinting at where you could find the eggs. People were to take pictures of themselves with the eggs, and come to Little Rangitōtō Reserve on the Easter Saturday to collect their chocolate prizes. We also had painting and a chocolate egg hunt on the Saturday for everyone as well. I loved seeing the images that people were posting on our Facebook page with our #RBCEasterHunt2022 hashtag. It was so exciting to see people getting involved. Some of those who joined in were asking when the next event we ran would be, giving us the chance to profile the Trick-or-Treat Drop-In/Off.
Although it was disappointing not being able to take our young people to Easter camps this year, I am glad that we were given the opportunity to reconnect with the families in our community, some of whom we have not seen in person for a long while. Thank you for your support in decorating the wooden eggs, providing chocolate eggs, and praying for us over the last few weeks. We are thankful that we were able to share the hope we have at Easter time with those in our community.

Ellen

These are usually held on the first Saturday each month at 8am in the church lounge. Covid regulations have resulted in these breakfasts not being held for some time but we are hoping that the traffic light setting will change after things settle, so we have tentatively planned a breakfast for Saturday 7 May at 8am. Our speaker will be Lindsay Marriner. Lindsay will be speaking about the history of our men’s breakfasts as well as some other thoughts. So men please set this date aside and we hope to see you there (Covid permitting). If there is any change we will let you know. Please feel free to invite other men.
