Just thinking…
"Happy 40th, Rob!" So said the sign that was 6 story tall and plastered on the side of an Auckland high-rise in February last year ... along with a smiling face of the man in question ... Rob Harvey. He knew nothing about the sign, which was visible to 1.6 million Aucklanders, until he got a call on his way to work. At first he didn't believe it. It must be a hoax! But then he was sent a link to a Herald article featuring the sign in all its glory. Turns out, his work colleagues had pitched in to pay for this remarkable birthday celebration, which stayed up for the full 24 hours of his birthday. Rob had been wanting to keep his milestone day 'on the down-low', but took the gesture well. "I'm very grateful for all the birthday love … I just wish they could have chosen a more flattering picture," he said. I love this story because it reminds us of the power and importance of celebrating significant events ... and the added importance of doing it together. Community enhances celebration, and in cases such as Rob's, actually drives celebration. The bible is full of invitations, exhortations, opportunities, motivations and even commands(!) to grab some people and start partying, all the while basking in the goodness and greatness of God's love and favour. This year, periods of 'community deprivation' have reminded us again of how good community is. So, let's come together this Sunday ready to party and ready to enjoy celebrating God together. There will even be balloons! I look forward to seeing you there.
In Him,
Murray
