Just thinking…
At the first Christmas, in one sense heaven came to earth. It’s ironic, then, that tradition has so wrapped around our understanding of both the first Christmas and of Heaven itself, that much of what we think about each stems more from tradition than from scripture. A donkey? An innkeeper? Only three wise men? These things aren’t mentioned in the Bible. But neither are pearly gates, departed souls sprouting wings, and an eternity playing harps. I don’t think unlimited beer-on-tap figures either! Does it matter what we believe about heaven? I think it does because throughout the New Testament and throughout history, certainties about heaven have been the hope that followers of Christ have clung to as they have striven for faithfulness in the trenches of life. So, what does the Bible really say about our eternity? You might be surprised at how wrong our inherited view of the Life after this life really is! You might also be surprised at how it has affected the way we view our lives, our mission and our world today. Come along as we journey into this fascinating topic!
In Him,
