When were you last in a team of people that functioned well to achieve a common goal? There is something very special about the experience, isn’t there? There is the thrill of a shared endeavour, and a sense of security knowing that things don’t all depend on you, that you can depend on others to do things that you can’t. Search the internet and you will find may quotes on teamwork – here is a selection (which is your favourite?)

The idea of teamwork, of course, didn’t originate with people. It is born in the mysterious reality of our three-in-one God, seen in the complementation of woman and man, embodied in the social units of family and community, and is meant to be the lifeblood of the church of Christ. The Christian understanding of teamwork is deeper than many of the models of the world. Yes, teams usually produce better results, but Christian teams are to be driven by love for each other before they are driven by outcomes. Paul writes, ^‘ From Jesus the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work’ (Ephesians 4:16). Let’s live together on purpose for Christ but let us remember that this is achieved best when our love for Him and for each other is strongest.
