Just thinking…
I believe that God has a unique purpose for each local church. What’s ours? Our conviction is summed up in three words: we believe God has purposed us to Glow, Grow and Go. We glow – by our words and actions displaying the character and love of God to this world. We grow – we intentionally develop our likeness to Jesus and our capacities to serve him more effectively. We go – we look to create places of connection in our world rather than waiting for them to come to us, so that the truth, power and love of Jesus may be known and experienced. I was talking with a grandmother at mainly music last Tuesday (one of those connection points), who brings her little granddaughter along every week. She said to me, “The things this church does are amazing! Running this (mainly music) each week, the kindergarten … and that amazing event you do at Halloween for our community … incredible!” Isn’t it so encouraging to hear that our purpose statement is not just ‘words on a page’, but is being lived out in ways that touches lives for Christ? Coming up very soon (March 9-10) is our Grow Camp. The purpose of this ‘in-house’ camp is to press into the second word – ‘grow’. We have a great line-up of people from our own faith whanau who will be investing in us during this camp through workshops and seminars … helping us to learn, upskill … and yes, have a bit of fun too! Come along, even if you can’t attend the whole event. It’s going to be great!
In Him,
Murray
This Sunday 3 March…
What If God Was One Of Us? - Last week, it was all about Jesus high up and glorious. This week it's about Jesus on the down-low. Last week, it was how we see Jesus. This week, it's how he sees us. (Hebrews 2:5-18).
The World Day of Prayer
The World Day of Prayer 2019 service will be held on Friday, March 1, at 10am at St Lukes Presbyterian Church, Remuera Road. Grow Camp is an ‘in-house’ camp to be held on Saturday and Sunday, 9-10 March for the purpose of growing each other in our skills, understanding, and passion for serving God. It will be a mixture of great times of worship and teaching, and instructive seminars on how to be equipped to GROW in love and service for Jesus.
GROW Camp will begin in the church auditorium at 4pm on Saturday, and finish at 4:15pm on Sunday. The Sunday morning worship service will continue as normal, but will pick up and reinforce the themes of the camp. Click here to view the full timetable.
Prayer Service
This Sunday at 7pm in the church. Come along to pray together.
mainly music
mainly music for young children is every Tuesday at 10am in the church lounge.
Office Hours
Please note that the office hours have changed to Tuesday 8am-11am and Thursday 8am-3pm.
Men’s Breakfast
Saturday 2 March from 8am. Recently we have sadly lost some good men from our church. Two in particular who are closely associated with Men’s Breakfast. As part of recognising the valuable resource of Godly men in our church, for the next few months we will be having men from our church share with us their experiences of what God has done or is doing in their lives. Starting with Paul Ungemuth Samoa Revisited – Paul will be speaking about our Pacific neighbours, experiences building houses again in Samoa and how God is seen working wonderfully amongst people in different cultures. Share a cooked breakfast, coordinated by chef supremo Lindsay M. We'd love to see you there. Please consider inviting a friend.
Leisure for Pleasure
Next Tuesday at 1pm in the church lounge. There is friendly company, card and board games, quizzes, music or bring your own handcrafts. With afternoon tea to follow. All are welcome!
GROW CAMP is coming!
Reserve March 9-10 for this special time together.
We need volunteers to run various seminars and workshops during the weekend. If you have something to share that could help others grow in God, or grow their abilities or skills in any way, then please contact the church office.
