Just Thinking…

I spent my early days growing up in the town of Whakatane, a sea-side town in the Bay of Plenty. When I was there, Whakatane was known to have a particularly tricky harbour for boats to enter. It had a bar to cross, and then there was a narrow channel of safety bordered by submerged rock which threatened to tear the bottom of boats. Occasionally we would hear of boats that didn’t make it. The local boaties had little trouble, however because they knew the secret. In Whakatane harbour there were two lights - one inside the Harbour on the shore and one way up on a hill overlooking the Harbour. As long as the skipper lined one light directly underneath the other, then safety was assured. A local would tell you, “Don’t look at the waves, don’t look at the rocks you can see - don’t look at anything except for those two lights, and you’ll be right.” Occasionally in life we need to make course corrections. We drift or get pulled off, and realise we need to make some adjustments. What guides you as you do this? What are your ‘lights’? Where is your life heading to, and what values and convictions do you need to align to ensure you get there? And how does God inform that bearing? Does your life need a ‘course correction’ at present?
